Located in Board of Education District 5 and KCS Region 4, Halls Middle School has been serving students since 1974.

Halls Middle School is committed to providing an outstanding education for all students through STEM programming, performance and visual arts, honors courses, career and technical education, and extracurricular activities ranging from athletics to the performing arts and BETA.

Executive Principal

Jessica Strickland

Jessica Strickland is the Principal at Halls Middle School. Ms. Strickland previously served as interim principal at Carter Elementary School and assistant principal at Carter Middle School. She joined the Knox County Schools in 2004 as a language arts teacher at Carter Middle and also served as a TAP Master Teacher at Carter Middle before entering administration.

Ms. Strickland has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Carson Newman University. A Master of Science Degree from Tusculum College and and Educational Specialist Degree from Lincoln Memorial University

6th Grade Principal

Joe Lancaster

Joe Lancaster is the 8th grade Assistant Principal at Halls Middle School. Mr. Lancaster previously served as an Assistant Principal at Vine Middle Magnet School and Karns Middle School. He joined Knox County Schools in 2002 as a Special Education teacher at Cedar Bluff Middle School. He also taught at Northwest Middle School while serving as a department head, a TAP Mentor teacher, and a TAP Master teacher prior to entering administration.

Mr. Lancaster has a Bachelor of Arts, Sociology (Criminal Justice) Degree from the University of Tennessee. He also has a Master of Science, Education Degree from the University of Tennessee as well as an Educational Specialist Degree, Education Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University

Mandy Hipshire

Mandy Hipshire is the 6th grade Assistant Principal at Halls Middle School. Mrs. Hipshire previously served as Dean of Students at Vine Middle School. She began her teaching career at Austin-East High School in 2011. She has taught ELA, been a Lead Teacher, Department chair, and a TPaCK Coach at Whittle Springs Middle School.

Mrs. Hipshire has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature Degree from the University of Tennessee. She also has a Master in Education Degree from Lincoln Memorial University as well as an Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.

Joy Sherrod

Joy Sherrod is the 8th grade Assistant Principal at Halls Middle School. Mrs. Sherrod previously served as a TAP Master Teacher at Vine Middle School. She began her teaching career in Knox County Schools in 1996 as a math teacher at Bearden Middle School and Carter Middle School before entering administration.

Mrs. Sherrod has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee. She has a Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree from Carson Newman University as well as an Education Specialist Degree from Lincoln Memorial University.
